Poison takes break from tour to play Rock Fest
POISON will take a one-day detour from the Power to the People tour to play the seventh annual Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin on July 23, the last day of a festival that runs from July 20-23 that will also feature SAMMY HAGAR, STYX, REO SPEEDWAGON, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, and more. Meanwhile, Poison drummer RIKKI ROCKETT is tracking songs for his Glitter For Your Soul compilation, along with guitarist BLUES SARACENO and bassist CHUCK GARRIC. Rockett plans to mount a Web cam in the studio to give fans an inside view. Visit www.glitterpunkdrumminvegan.cx or www.rikkirockett.com for more info.
VOIVOD has two albums on tap for release this year, the first of which, Voivod Lives, will be issued this month in conjunction with the band's European tour supporting THERION. The album was recorded at two 1996 concerts, one at CBGB's in New York City, and the other at the Dynamo Festival in Holland. The second disc will be a studio concept album, targeted for release in the summer, that may include enhanced-CD material. Voivod also provided five songs for a new video game, Onslaught, and may be the subject of a Relapse Records tribute album, possibly featuring tracks covered by the likes of SEPULTURA, PRIMUS, and MR. BUNGLE.
Over at the DLR Army Site, the guys are having an online petition for the return of Classic Van Halen. They are collecting names and will be submitting the petition snail mail. to WB, DLR's camp and the Van Halen camp. Check it out: http://www.dlrarmy.com
JOURNEY is still in the studio. They're working on overdubs and vocals now, and the new album is scheduled for release in September. The planned interview is also back on hold after I was told there will be no interviews until the album is finished.
SAMMY HAGAR and his band are heading back into the studio to work on a new album that is tentatively scheduled for release around October.
