Tommy Lee in jail...again

TOMMY LEE has been spending the Memorial Day holiday weekend in jail, ordered to spend five days behind bars for violating the terms of his probation by drinking alcohol. His probation has been extended till 2003 and he will be subject to random drug and alcohol tests. VELDACY, a New York area metal outfit (with a killer website by the way) is looking for a few new members. You can contact them via their website at www.veldacy.com UNION's JOHN CORABI has recorded vocals for a cover of ALICE COOPER's "Elected" for RIKKI ROCKETT's Glitter For Your Soul album. Upcoming guest singers, who'll be viewable on the studio cam at www.glitterpunkdrumminvegan.cx/ when they record, include JIZZY PEARL on "Can You Feel It," and Rockett's POISON bandmates BRET MICHAELS on "Tear it Down" and C.C. DeVILLE on "All the Way to Memphis." While there are no DEF LEPPARD shows slated for Los Angeles yet (the tour kicks off July 21 in Mansfield, Massachusetts), drummer RICK ALLEN will be sitting in with THE MARK MASON PROJECT at a couple of L.A. shows, on May 31 at The Whisky in West Holywood and June 2 at Scruffy O'Shea's in Marina Del Rey. After wrapping a run with METALLICA on July 16 in Queen Creek, Arizona, KORN will jump right into a headlining jaunt with POWERMAN 5000 and PAPA ROACH supporting on July 18 in Fargo, North Dakota. The tour will wrap August, 25 in Montreal, Quebec, but Family Values may follow. Metallica, however, will take the rest of 2000 off and begin work on a new record early next year. ZAKK WYLDE and his BLACK LABEL SOCIETY bandmates will chat live with fans as they rehearse for their tour on June 2 at 9 PM ET at America Online keyword Rock Chat. KING DIAMOND also has a cyberchat scheduled: June 21 at 9 PM ET, also at AOL keyword Rock Chat. THE SCORPIONS' album with the BERLIN PHILHARMONIC, Moment of Glory, will be released June 19. These guys need to stop going off in these experimental directions. Remember Eye to Eye? God, what a sh*t storm that album was. WHITE LION bassist JAMES LOMENZO and drummer GREG D'ANGELO are working with singer JIMMY LAWRENCE on a new band project. MIKE TRAMP is out on the road doing acoustic versions of White Lion songs...which, as we have eard from a few sources... isn't the most impressive thing you've ever seen. According to Billboard, with THE CULT currently in the studio working on new material, Beggars Banquet is releasing a retrospective album, Pure Cult -- The Singles 1984-1995, due out in the UK on July 3 - the same day that lead singer Ian Astbury will issue a new solo album. Astbury's single 'High Time Amplifier' has a June 5 street date overseas as a teaser for the album, which will be titled Spirit/Light/Speed. The single is backed with the demo version of the album cut 'Tyger' and the Witchman mix of the title track. Witchman (a.k.a. breakbeat mixer John Roome) worked on the album with Astbury's longtime associate Chris Goss. The Cult reunion album is due out next year. In related news, the band have recorded the song 'Painted On My Heart' for the upcoming Nicholas Cage flick Gone In 60 Seconds. To capture the old-school IRON MAIDEN sound featured on the upcoming release Brave New World, the members of Iron Maiden holed up in a studio in Paris and essentially recorded it all live, something Maiden had never done before despite its notoriously tight live sound. "I think there was universal disenchantment with the idea of doing an album piecemeal on ProTools. Nobody wanted to indulge in that nonsense," Dickinson said. Consequently, the six members of Maiden's current lineup (Dickinson, Smith, guitarist Dave Murray, guitarist Janick Gers, drummer Nicko McBrain, and bassist Steve Harris) all set up their gear in different corners of a converted theater and recorded their parts at the same time. The band also gelled once again during the creative process as Dickinson notes that Maiden wrote its new material as a collective, with five different songwriters within the band sharing responsibility for the ten tracks on "Brave New World." "If the record sounds uniformly strong, it's because of the uniform strength within the band," Dickinson said. Despite Dickinson's long absence from Maiden (or perhaps because of it), the recording process was relatively conflict-free. "It was all very positive whenever we had a disagreement on something," Dickinson said. "It never turned into an argument. It was more of a positive discussion about the relative merits or demerits of a particular thing." ... We have had a copy of this disc for a few weeks, and while the initial opinion was "this sucks!"... The tracks on Brave New World are beginning to grow on us... kind of like a fungus.
