METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD joined MOTORHEAD on stage to jam on set-ender "Overkill" last Thursday night, May 25, at San Franciso's Maritime Hall. The relationship between Motorhead and Metallica goes way back: Metallica has covered Motorhead's songs and, for LEMMY's 50th birthday party in Los Angeles four years ago, all four members dressed up as Lemmy to perform in his honor.
While on tour this summer with MÖTLEY CRÜE and MEGADETH will raise awareness about the plight of the homeless via tables set up by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the showing of the "Breadline" video, which was filmed on the streets of Los Angeles and will be used in the organization's new public service announcement. "People are becoming homeless at an alarming rate," says DAVE MUSTAINE. "Homelessness doesn't strike down the weak or ignorant. It does not discriminate. It happens to the best and the worst of us. Please open your eyes; turning your head will not make this go away. It can happen to anyone.I should know; I was homeless for two years from 1984-1986." Proceeds from the band's appearance in Washington, DC will benefit the Coalition.
Drummer CARMINE APPICE sent us the following note as a cautionary tale. "When you start a Web site make sure that the name of the Web site, that is, the domain name and address, are registered in your name or your company's name. You have to register your domain name and address with registration companies like Network Solutions for the right to use that name. If you don't register in your name, the site, name and address can be stolen from you. This just happened to me. This stealing of a site and domain name is illegal," he writes. "I had what I thought was a good Web master. He was a big fan of my first group VANILLA FUDGE. After I contacted him when I saw the Vanilla Fudge site he put up, he offered to build my personal site and my Guitar Zeus site. Knowing nothing about the Internet in 1995 or '96, I said OK. After the sites were built, I asked him if we could get carmineappice.com and guitarzeus.com, and he said no problem. I didn't know he registered my sites' domain names to his company. This is not a legal act. I didn't find this out until we had a major disagreement and I switched my sites to my manger's company to run. Then we found out he had registered my sites in his name. All of sudden he says I owe him money for the sites, and he was threatening to steal my sites if I didn't pay him within a certain time period. Money aside, this is illegal. I paid for the site domain names and he can't own my copyrighted names. Also, if someone owes you money and they don't pay you, do you go steal something from them? No, that is illegal. There are other legal methods of going after someone, which he should have done or worked out an agreement with me. Instead of living up to an arrangement that we worked out on the phone, he chose to steal my guitarzeus.com site and my carmineappice.com site. This is blackmail and stealing of someone's property. And it has happened to many famous people already and it can happen to you. I thought it would be a good idea to let fellow musicians know about these Internet snakes before they get into the same kind of mess. Now I have to go after him legally. The Internet is a great tool for everyone in the world, but it also a place where people can get ripped off. please go to http://www.nadobra.com/domainfaq.asp for more information about this topic. it may help you."
