The DEFTONES celebrated the upcoming (June 20) release of their third album White Pony at a party at Arcadia Club on the Santa Monica pier last night that was cybercast live on the Net. The band treated media, VIPs (including SYSTEM OF A DOWN buddies SHAVO and SERJ) along with a few lucky fans to a slamming peformance that was a taste of what's to come on the band's summer tour (and that mtledge.com Members will be able to view next week). SAMANTHA 7--C.C. DeVILLE's "other" band- played The Key Club in W.Hollywood last night to celebrate the release of the trio's debut album of fun, slightly punk-edged power pop. The verdict? DeVille, who's in fantastic shape, doesn't have the strongest voice in the world but it works for the songs, and he's a charismatc frontman, ably supported by bassist KRYS BARATTO and drummer FRANCIS RUIZ. On hand to support him were lots of notable friends. POISON bandmates RIKKI ROCKETT and proud new papa BRET MICHAELS were there, and so were JUAN CROUCIER (who's just completed his LIQUID SUNDAY CD), GREAT WHITE's SEAN McNABB, newly short-haird JIZZY PEARL, who has reunited with LOVE/HATE buddy JON E. LOVE and is also playing with fellow L.A. GUNS castoffs JOHNNY CRYPT and CHRIS VAN DAHL. Drummer ATHENA was there without hubby JAMES KOTTAK, who's in Germany with THE SCORPIONS, but had some interesting news: she and Krunk will portray a band called MOJO in the movie thriller Glass House, and will shoot a scene for the film at the Staples Arena in Los Angeles early next month. Athena is also playing with JOHN LEVESQUE (former WILD HORSES singer) and guitarist LINO ALESSIO in another band called V. While Poison will start rehearsals for the summer tour this weekend, DeVille will take time out to host an art event called Just Rubber and a Blank Canvas at the Rock Walk outside Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood next Thursday, June 8 from noon till 1:30 PM. Keep an eye on our Members section for exclusive video footage of Samantha 7's performance, post-show autograph session and interviews, celebrity guests, and a separate in-depth interview with Rikki Rockett, conducted at his home recording studio.
