Castillo misses Maximum Rock tour

It appears that RANDY CASTILLO won't recover from stomach surgery for a bleeding ulcer in time for the Maximum Rock Tour kickoff after all, so HOLE's SAMANTHA MALONEY will take over on at least the first few weeks, which begin June 24 in Sacramento, California. NIKKI SIXX explained the move by saying in a statement, "With the tour starting in one week we didn't want to cancel shows on fans. We had previously met Samantha and knew she was dynamic and could add a real edge to the live show. Our first practice together last week was great -- she already knew most of the songs. We wish Randy a speedy recovery." Maloney will be aboard this fall when HOLE records a new album. ZAKK WYLDE's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will be on the bill (main stage, third slot) on four more dates on OzzFest, for a total of six. BLS will appear at the stops in Seattle, Washington on August 24, San Francisco, California on August 26, Sacramento California on August 28, and Phoenix, Arizona on August 30, along with the previously announced dates in San Bernardino, California on September 1 and 2. BLS' Penchant For Violence tour with CROWBAR and 60 WATT SHAMAN kicks off Friday in Anaheim, California. Fans at last Saturday's KROQ (Los Angeles) Weenie Roast got more than the expected performances from the likes of KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, GODSMACK, CREED and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. Not only did OZZY OSBOURNE do a pre-OzzFest solo turn, he brought out BLACK SABBATH band mates TONY IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER and BILL WARD for a brief set. After wrapping up the Summer Sanitarium swing with METALLICA, KORN, POWERMAN 5000 and SYSTEM OF A DOWN, KID ROCK will launch a headlining tour on August 2 in Evansville, Indiana that will run through August 31 at Pine Knob, in Rock's home town, Detroit, Michigan. SILVERCHAIR is among the bands on the soundtrack for Scary Movie, the horror spoof starring SHAWN and MARLON WAYANS, SHANNON ELIZABETH and CHERI OTERI, debuting July 7. Silverchair's "Punk Song #2," BLOODHOUND GANG's "The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope," and the RAMONES' classic "I Wanna Be Sedated" are among the punk, rock and hip-hop tracks featured on the album, due out June 4. THE DEFTONES will be DAVID LETTERMAN's guest tonight on The Late Show, along with MARK WAHLBERG, who just wrapped the to-be-retitled Metal God. He's plugging The Perfect Storm this time out--the '80s rock flick won't come out late in the year or early next. Drummer CARMINE APPICE will be visible and audible on TV several times this month: He's part of VH1's Rock Show episode on Sex and Groupies on June 26 at 10:30 PM ET/PT (first ten minutes), the June 22 Rock Show's Top 40 Bad Ass Countdown at 8 PM ET/PT (last 15 minutes), and on June 26, he'll be heard in via several songs in Dish Dogs, a Romance Channel movie airing June 26 at 11PM ET and June 27 at 1:15 PM ET. Appice and KELLY KEELING wrote "Couldn't Be Better," heard at the beginning of the movie, and "Where You Belong," featured midway. Carmine's Guitar Zeus II compilation is due to be released in the fall. KING DIAMOND chats with America Online fans on June 21, keyword Rock Chat. His House of God album is released the day before, and his tour begins July 20 in W. Hollywood, California. KING'S X begins a U.S. tour on July 11 in support of Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous, kicking off in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and winding up in the same state on September 26 in Ft. Lauderdale.
