CREED and LIMP BIZKIT have entered round 2 of their little pissing contest. First, Creed singer SCOTT STAPP and FRED DURST butted heads at KROCK's Dysfunctional Family Picnic, and now Durst is being accused of hurling nast remarks
at up-and-coming band, TAPROOT. A statement was issued on Wednesday from Creed's camp which accused Durst of "vulgar comments and violent threats... totally indicative of a mobster mentality"...Creed also goes on to say that Stapp's open challenge to face Durst in a charity boxing match still stands. (Ha!...remember when VINCE NEIL challenged AXL ROSE to a fight?)... Apparently, Durst, who is a VP at Interscope (what a fucking joke), was courting TapRoot for a deal, but then got pissed off when the band started playing showcases for other labels. He proceeded to leave nasty messages on manager Steve Richards' answering machine, saying things like "You fucked up...[TapRoot] embarrassed me and the Interscope family", and that the band "is going to be blackballed and probably erased, and you will too"... The message has been making the rounds online, and Velvet Hammer management has verified that it is authentic. TapRoot has signed with Atlantic and are on the bill on the second stage of Ozzfest 2000.
At the House of Blues in Los Angeles, METALLICA showed up to play an impromptu gig for an intimate crowd of a thousand contest winners. However, after the show, a 24 year-old man who was working as a contestant coordinator fell from a balcony at the Hyatt Hotel across the street from the venue. Initial reports are that he lost his balance, and fell to the pavement below. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
In other METALLICA news, when is the last time METALLICA came to your town and there were tickets available the night of the show? Shows used to sell out weeks in advance, but now it seems there's a surplus of empty seats at their shows. Apparently, this fight against Napster has not endeared the band to the concert-going fans.
The KISS Farewell tour will do without one of the opening acts when it comes to Texas. TED NUGENT will not be performing with KISS on August 22nd in Houston. Nugent refused to clean up his politically-charged rants after promoters were feeling the heat from the Hispanic community, who were offended by many of Ted's remarks about Non-English speaking people existing in the United States.
PUYA has dropped out of the Tattoo the Earth tour, and SPINESHANK has filled the vacated slot. Also on the Tattoo the Earth tour, NASHVILLE PUSSY, missed Tuesday Night's show and will miss shows tonight and tomorrow. No reason was given. Chances are it's so that the new bassist can learn CREY PARKS' pieces.
