A California Court of Appeals has granted Napster a stay of execution for Napster. The music-swapping service will be allowed to conduct business as usual until an appeals panel hearing occurs in September. This will be an interesting case to watch, because we're going to see how 19th and 20th century legislation will affect 21st century technology.
SAMMY HAGAR may be trying to beat VAN HALEN to the finish line with his new album release. The album, titled 10 Thirteen for his birthday, is set to be released on October 13th (yes, same as the title)... The VAN HALEN rumors are flying (as usual), but the most solid of which seems to be that the band wants to release theirs in September or October. Even if Sammy does beat them to record store shelves, something tells me he's not going to overcome the massive poularity of a reunited Eddie, Alex, Mike, and Dave.
JOHN SYKES will release his new disc, Nuclear Cowboy, in Japan in late August. Some of the song titles are: "Nuclear Cowboy", "Degraded", "One Way System", and "I Wish It Would Rain"... If you need an immediate fix, you can hear Sykes' playing on the just-released-in-the-States THIN LIZZY: One Night Only
JOHN BUSH, now off the Maximum Rock tour with ANTHRAX, is teaming back up with ARMORED SAINT to tour the Wacken festival in Germany. This will be the only European date until their fall tour with JACOB'S DREAM and ENGINE.
TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, otherwise known as [most of] SAVATAGE, has been asked to contribute music to the new JIM CARREY film, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. This commitment has forced the members to stop working on the newest Savatage disc, Poets and Madmen. The upcoming tour has also been postponed until October, at which point they will announce the replacement for AL PITRELLI, who left to join MEGADETH.
HOUSE OF LORDS is starting the publicity machine up now that they've officially reunited and announced a new album. Check http://www.houseoflordsgroup.com/ for a preview of what's to come.
Also on the reunion and re-signed wagon is HURRICANE, who have signed a worldwide deal with Frontiers Records. Frontman KELLY HANSEN is back at the helm, and will be delivering the new disc sometime early next year.
