NAPSTER CAN RELAX FOR A WHILE
The folks over at Napster can calm down for a bit now that Judge Marilyn Patel has issued a memorandum that the music industry, not the swapping service. is responsible for finding and identifying copyrighted files. Napster had been trying to block all variations of tile names that appeared on its system, which resulted in blocking files that were not supposed to be blocked. It's now up to the record labels to identify the material it wants off the system, but with the help of technical advisors, efforts are being made to improve the filters.
