2006 US Air Guitar Championships are under way
Regional Competitions throughout America start March 2, 2006 in New York City US Air Guitar Championships set for June 2006 Winner to be flown to Oulu, Finland for the Air Guitar World Championships in September 2006 The 2006 US Air Guitar Regional Heats will begin on March 2nd in New York City. After winning the World Championships in 2004 and 2005, The USA placed no better than 7th in last year's world championships. This year, Team USA is redoubling its efforts in the annual search for the greatest air guitarist in all the land. Regional competitions will be held in at least 10 cities nationwide. ?One winner from each regional will be flown to New York City in June 2006 to compete for the title of US Air Guitar Champion. ?The winner of the US Finals will win a trip to Finland to represent the USA in the 11th annual Air Guitar World Championships. US Air Guitar is devoted to taking our nation's unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the world stage. US Air Guitar is an official member of the World Air Guitar Association and each year sends the US Air Guitar Champion to compete for the world title in Oulu, Finland.

The NYC Regional Champion will secure a spot in the 2006 US Finals, where he or she will compete against Regional Champions from across the country as well as the first-ever Collegiate Champion. AIR GUITAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2006 US Air Guitar Champion will move on to the Air Guitar World Championships, held every August in Northern Finland. Entering its eleventh year, there are official national championships in the USA, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, with more countries participating every year. RULES AND REGULATIONS The US Regionals will each consist of two rounds. In round 1, each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. In round 2, the top competitors from round 1 perform to the surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform for one minute of a song and are judged on a combination of technical prowess, stage presence and “airness." All guitars must be invisible. In each city, the jury is a panel of independent judges hand picked by US Air Guitar. The results of the jury cannot be protested.? PAST WINNERS These rarefied few have the total package: technical wizardry, stage presence and the ever-elusive "airness."
