Fiffle is what I call “easy listening”. Don’t get me wrong, they’re as heavy as the
next guy but the overall package is easy on the ears and that can be good and bad for a metal band. Fiffle doesn’t really come at you with a knife aiming for your throat but they certainly aren’t dentist office muzak either. They are riff heavy and I like that a lot, especially because there aren’t very many bands doing that now. Plus you gotta love a band with a guy named Mooch on the bass.
I don’t know much about Fiffle, and I’m not sure how old this disc is but I do
know the singer, Rob Brock, is now with Among Thieves, Alan Robert’s (Life of Agony) new band. I think Rob may have a better fit there as he seems a bit much for Fiffle. I don’t know if Rob’s departure caused the break up of Fiffle but I could definitely see these guys sparking some major label interest because the industry has a hard on for shit like this right now.
I must admit, there are a lot of bands like Fiffle and the lack of intensity is a notable shortcoming but I’d rather hear bands doing riff heavy stuff like this than wacky masks and scary clown make up. Fiffle would be a good fit for fans of Sabbath, Faith No More and maybe Sevendust and all those bands. I could easily hear this on regular rotation at WSOU for instance. If you’re into that stuff, check out Fiffle, posthumously or not. I have a feeling Fiffle's energy may not translate well in the studio, so they may be a good act to catch live.
