First Rodeo
Honeyhoney, a duo, hailing from Venice California, consists of Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe. Their newest release First Rodeo, is quite the album, boasting a wide assortment of flavors, ranging from blues and folk, to bluegrass and alt-country. Santo, taking on the vocal responsibilities, has a beautiful voice with impressive range.
At times, her singing is reminiscent Bonnie Raitt, as in the bluesy cuts ’Bouncing Ball’ and ’Come on Home’. Other times, she sounds like Gwen Stefani, as in “Little Toy Gun“, one of my favorites on this CD which has an ultra-smoky lounge song feel to it. Another favorite selection, “Sugarcane”, an alt-country song with just a little twang to it, gives the impression it was written and performed with an influence from Amy Winehouse.
First Rodeo is very well written. The music and lyrics could easily be mistaken for Tom Waits at times. I am very impressed with this collection.
