Korven Kuningas

If you like Finnish Folk/Metal, then you are probably already familiar with Korpiklaani, whose fifth release, Korven Kuningas was released last year.   For those not familiar, Korpiklaani performs mostly in their native language, with only a couple of tracks recorded in English.  Only Jethro Tull could rock so much with an arsenal of instruments which include the accordion, violin, and wood winds.  At times I found myself imagining myself in the middle of a fall Celtic festival, only to be whisked away and plopped in the middle of a crazed mosh pit.

At times these guys really pour it on heavy, as in the tracks “Kantaiso“ and “Tapporauta“.  Lots of power chording from guitarists Kalle "Cane" Savijärvi and Jonne Järvelä mixed with the relentless drumming of Matti "Matson" Johansson, make for a fun listen.  The music of Korpiklaani is energetic and refreshing.  In fact, I keep the CD stowed away in my gym bag lately because I like working out to it.  All this, and guaranteed not to be overplayed by your local rock stations.
