DESENSITIZED
Picture this...you're in a band, and you have just broken through with your first big single, and you're on
OZZFEST, and you're just digging your heels into a career you've wanted for years...
and
your singer dies suddenly...tragically.
What do you do?
If you're a member of DROWNING POOL, you pick up, dust off, and find yourself another singer (who hopefully will measure up to the original set of pipes), and you work your ass off to put out a killer set of tunes, because you know you're going to have to re-prove yourself with the new guy.
Oh yeah, and you get a magnificent, piece-of-ass,
porno chick to show up in your video and on your album cover.
Desensitized is proof that the band can do exactly that.
The first thing you see when you pick up this disc is
JESSE JANE on the cover, holding an aluminum bat, looking hot as hell...which is a brilliant move. Whoever connected these guys with Jesse, one of the hottest, and most recognizable adult stars today, was a genius.
Beneath the cover, however, lies a great collection of songs. Because if you peel away the cover, and the new singer, what is going to sell records is going to be the songs. "Step Up", which also surfaced on the
Punisher Soundtrack, is a brutal first single. "Bringing Me Down" is another single-worthy track, along with "Cast Me Aside" (a song with a killer chorus that will inspire you to kick a hole in a wall...and a dog...wichever is closer). "Killin' Me" and "Hate" are my other two favorites.
Jason "Gong" Jones is a different singer than Dave Williams; Not better, not worse, just different. Listening to
Desensitized, I'm sure he'll be able to handle all the band's older material when they're out on the road.
OK, enough gushing. It's an amazing disc. Go get it.
