Dismembered foot discovered in dead man's clothing
(Oh please. If I had a nickel for every dismembered foot I had in my clothes, I'd have... oh wait, I don't wear clothes. Shit.)
From CNN:
ROANOKE RAPIDS, North Carolina (AP) -- A dismembered foot was accidentally sent home to the family of a dead teenager after it got mixed in with a load of his clothing.
The president of Halifax Regional Medical Center blamed the incident on an overcrowded refrigerator in the morgue.
"The best we can tell they brought the body part in and it appears the refrigerator was full and it was put in the other cooler" where clothing is kept, hospital president Rick Gilstrap said.
He said it appeared someone then inadvertently included the separately wrapped body part with the clothes of 18-year-old Terell Silver, who was killed in a November 28 car accident.
"We're sorry this mistake occurred," Gilstrap said.
Silver's family received the clothing from a funeral home and stored it in a shed until last week, when a family friend offered to clean out the space. When the friend opened a bag containing Silver's clothing, he found the foot wrapped in a bloody, green towel.
Silver's mother, Sherry Wiggins, said she has had trouble sleeping since her son's death and the hospital error only increased her sleeplessness and distress.
