DELTA Goodrem is devastated by revelations Mark Philippoussis has been cheating on her with US socialite Paris Hilton.

The Australian singer knew nothing about the affair and last night Goodrem's mother Lea was preparing to fly to London to be with her shattered daughter.

"Delta is really upset," a source close to the Goodrem family said.

"She only knew about it when the family was contacted by the media.

"It's the worst way to find out, to read about it."

And as the Goodrem family prepared to comfort the heartbroken 19-year-old in England, a defiant Philippoussis yesterday refused to talk about his actions.

The tennis ace spent yesterday lapping up the sun and surfing in southern California and told The Daily Telegraph: "I don't talk about my private life."

Asked three times to deny the stories about he and Hilton, Philippoussis repeatedly refused to say he had not been involved with Hilton.

"I'm not going to say anything," the tennis star said."I have nothing to say now."

Philippoussis then happily chatted about the four hours of surfing he does every day, his plan to skip an upcoming tennis tournament in Stockholm, his desire to win a Grand Slam and his training regime.

He finished the conversation by saying "if you look after me I will look after you".

The bust up of Philippoussis and Goodrem's nine-month relationship followed comments yesterday by 23-year-old heiress Paris Hilton.

She said that she was having a steamy relationship with Philippoussis.

"I've got a new man, and I'm head over heels in love," Hilton said during a shopping spree.

"I adore him, he's so hot. His name is Mark Philippoussis."

Producing an SMS mobile phone photo of a half-naked Philippoussis, Hilton then said that her new beau had broken up with Goodrem because she was "boring".

There is speculation the Scud may have met Hilton through Tara Reid, with whom he was romantically linked in August last year.

Bombshell buddies Reid and Hilton have a reputation for racy behaviour at an endless string of parties.

Just a few hours after declaring her new love for Philippoussis, Hilton was seen partying at trendy Los Angeles club Spider in the company of her on-and-off boyfriend, extreme skateboarder Chad Muska.

It is understood Goodrem and her family were especially surprised that Philippoussis had been involved with Hilton, especially given her reputation as a party animal and a notorious man-eater.

"I mean, Paris Hilton of all people," an insider said.

"I mean if it was a nice girl -- but Paris Hilton!"

Several sources with intimate knowledge of the Goodrem-Philippoussis relationship have told The Daily Telegraph Delta has not heard from the Australian tennis player since news broke yesterday about the Hilton affair.

One close friend of Goodrem's also said that the singer would not deign to ring Philippoussis to talk to him about the breaking scandal.

"She has to much class to bother talking to him," the friend said.

"She will not be calling him."
