IMUS FIRES SID ROSENBERG
From
The New York Daily News:
After four years of providing his twisted brand of air sickness,
Sid (Sidiot) Rosenberg has been fired from
WFAN's "
Imus In The Morning Show."
Industry sources said
Don Imus is expected to mention Rosenberg's forced departure during today's morning drive-time program. However, Rosenberg will remain at WFAN as co-host of the mid-day sports talk show with
Joe Benigno.
The decision to fire Rosenberg resulted from a cruel comment he made last Wednesday about singer
Kylie Minogue's battle with breast cancer. Rosenberg speculated on how Minogue would look after undergoing chemotherapy and surgery.
Rosenberg offered an immediate on-air apology, but was quickly suspended from the show by FAN execs, who ultimately decided to dump him.
"In the end everyone involved agreed this was the best thing to do," a source said. "Sid can concentrate on doing sports talk where he doesn't have a problem controlling his mouth."
For the immediate future,
Chris Carlin, who anchors FAN's all-night show, will replace Rosenberg on Imus.
Losing the Imus gig will cost Rosenberg. A large piece of his FAN salary came from working on the Imus show.
And yet, while working in that venue, Rosenberg was in constant trouble - on and off the air.
He made racially charged comments about
Serena and Venus Williams, referring to Serena as an "animal." Rosenberg was sued by a satellite TV company after offering an on-air discourse on how to steal satellite TV signals.
Rosenberg referred to the USA women's soccer team as a bunch of "juiced-up dykes." Throughout his tenure on Imus' show, Rosenberg was often missing in action. In September 2004, FAN brass suspended him after he failed to report for work.
And last March, Rosenberg took a leave of absence from WFAN to enter a rehabilitation facility in New Jersey to undergo treatment for substance abuse.
