caught on video: miami police officer crashes into concrete post

February 6, 2010 - A Miami police officer was injured after slamming her cruiser into a concrete fence post. Witnesses say the officer was struck by another driver, who failed to stop at a red light. The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. at 10th Avenue and NW 119th Street. According to witness reports, the officer was heading east on NW 119th Street when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota at the intersection at 10th Avenue. Witnesses told police the driver of the Toyota did not stop at the intersection even though the traffic light was flashing red. The injured officer whose legs were pinned under the dashboard as a result of the collision was unable to regain control the car before it jumped a curb and slammed into a concrete fence post. Several drivers stopped moments after the accident to see if they could help the injured officer. Fire rescue personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to get her out of the car. She was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where she was treated and released. Police have identified the officer involved in the accident or what charges will be filed against the driver of the Toyota.
