FORMER O&A FLAGSHIP TO GO BYE BYE
Some big changes happening again at 'O&A's Former Flagship Station'. It will hold the record of shortest running format in NYC.
According to RADIO AND RECORDS ONLINE (MORNING UPDATE)
R&R hears strong rumblings that WNEW (102.7 Blink)/New York PD Steve Kingston has tendered his resignation from the Infinity station. A veteran PD, Kingston has overseen WNEW since its April relaunch as Blink and reportedly departed over a difference in programming philosophies and management styles. Kingston previously programmed Infinity Alternative WXRK (K-Rock)/N.Y. and Clear Channel's crosstown CHR/Pop WHTZ (Z100). Meanwhile, talk of a possible format overhaul at WNEW grows louder as Blink has softened its musical presentation over the past few weeks.
According to RADIO AND RECORDS ONLINE (AFTERNOON UPDATE)
R&R has now confirmed the departure of WNEW PD Steve Kingston, and according to well-placed sources the station known as "102.7 Blink" could overhaul its on-air presentation as soon as Friday. Market speculation has WNEW's playlist shifting to an upper-demo appeal in an attempt to woo listeners from crosstown Hot AC WPLJ and market-leading AC WLTW. WNEW is also rumored to be taking a "more music" approach, deemphasizing the entertainment-heavy programming that had been the hallmark of Blink since its April debut. There's no official word on who'll take over WNEW's programming, although several names have been tossed about from both inside and outside Infinity.
