The Ghost of O&A...
The following article by David Hinckley appeared in todays New York Daily News.
A Washington-area media watch sheet says Infinity Broadcasting still seems to be touchy about former WNEW hosts Opie and Anthony.
Infinity chief Mel Karmazin blasted them during a press conference on Infinity quarterly earnings last week and then on Friday night, there was speculation that Infinity cut short a live Ron and Fez remote broadcast because the crowd started chanting, "O and A!"
Ron and Fez, also formerly of WNEW, were broadcasting live from the Hard Rock here to their current station, WJFK in Washington. With about an hour left, WJFK switched to a best, saying it was having "technical difficulties."
The real reason, suggests the media sheet DCRTV in Washington, was the "O and A!" chant, which began when Anthony Cumia of Opie and Anthony showed up - even though he didn't go on the air.
Infinity is appealing an FCC notice that would fine the company $357,000 for O&A's infamous "sex in St. Patrick's broadcast" of summer 2002.
