Assistant Producer Ben
1. What exactly do you do at WNEW?
I work in the Promotions Department which is everything from setting up
giveaways for on the air, like WWF, concerts, computer games. Also work in
coordinating appearances and live broadcasts. Along with Rick I organized the
Webster Hall broadcast and the Homeless Shopping Spree.
2. No, really... What do you do?
Watch porn, drink beer and rag on Earl.
3. How did you start your career in
radio?
When I was about 7 I started playing records during summer break from school for
the guys painting my house and doing the DJ thing. I then went on to intern at
WBCN in Boston and do High School Radio. I then went on college at Emerson in
Boston and now here I am in New York at WNEW.
4. Have you ever experienced the kind of
love that only a man can give another man?
I almost did last year after the Christmas party and tons of alcohol, with a
she-man transsexual.
5. How did you go about and how long did
it take you to round up all of the homeless guys for the Homeless Shopping
Spree?
With the help of Keith the Cop we started the process a week and a half before
the event. I had called a shelter to get 5 people because we weren't sure how
reliable the guys from the street were. The day of the event Keith and I drove
around Downtown Manhattan looking for homeless people. The first person we
spotted was Ziggy on Bleeker Street, I turned to Keith and said this guy is
perfect. We then went around and next found Grey Wolf and Thomas in a park in
the West Village, they were a little skeptical. We then went to the subway
station on 6th Avenue and that's where the other guys were. Taking them on the
subway up to 57th Street was one of the funniest things I have ever been a part
of. Ziggy sat down and cleared a section of the subway with his stench. They
guys thought we were scamming them, they thought we might of been fags or
locking them up.
6. In radio, you have to be very willing
to relocate. Is there anywhere you REFUSE to move to for your career?
I don't think I could live anywhere but New York, New York Rules, if I couldn't
get a job in radio I would do something else in this city. Boston is cool but I
grew up there, I like Los Angeles but I don't think I could live there. I need
to be in a big city with lots of shit to do and lots of bars, I am Irish and
this is a need.
7. Do you have feelings for Spaz?
No, I feel nothing towards Spaz.
8. a)Do you like the night life? ... b)Do
you like to boogie?
Love the nightlife, I go out a lot. Between work and dinner with Psycho Mark
every night I am never home. I only boogie when I am completely shit-faced and
feel and urge to make a complete ass of myself. Actually I get drunk and make an
ass of myself a lot.
9. What is the strangest thing you have
ever been asked to do for the Opie & Anthony show?
I don't know if this is strange per but cleaning up the mess after the Bronco
bash at Manny's in Moonachie. Earl and I were there until 10pm cleaning up the
mess. There was a manic still there trying to rip the door off. There was pieces
of the truck, oil and glass all over the place. We cleaned that mess up. Or
having to go to 2 Super Bowl parties last year that were about 2 hours apart,
the first one was with Steve Mason in New Jersey and then driving all the way to
Suffolk, LI to meet O & A at the other party and getting there after the
game was over, that was not a promotion that O & A came up with or I had any
part in. I don't think we will ever do something like that again, it was a BAD
idea.
10. If you couldn't work in radio, what
would you want to do?
No idea, maybe just walk the streets of Manhattan aimlessly.
11. If you woke up in the middle of the
woods, slumped over a log, with your pants around your ankles, and vasoline all
over your ass, would you tell anyone about it?
Everything around here eventually comes out.
12. Want to go camping?
No, I hate the woods, I'm a city boy, I love the smell of piss on streets, trash
everywhere, 24 hour delivery, homeless, etc. If I leave a city environment I
freak out after a couple of days.
13. Is Ziggy your father?
No, I would be scared for any child of Ziggy's.
