September 7, 2006 - Two innocent bystanders were shot and wounded in a shooting so brazen that it took place within earshot of armed police officers outside a police substation at the Eastmont Mall while CBS Reporter manuel Ramos was conducting an interview with an Oakland police sergeant for another story.
The victims, a man and a woman, suffered gunshot wounds to their legs when they were struck by gunfire just after 4 pm in the mall parking lot. They were in stable condition after being transported to Highland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe the shooter actually missed his intended target near a crowded mall bus stop on 73rd Ave. and instead stuck the two bystanders.
