racer survives 500km/h crash at raceway in queensland, australia
A Swan Hill man has escaped unscathed from a 500km/h crash that destroyed his $250,000 dragster at a raceway near Ipswich in Queensland. The front of Philip Lamattina's vehicle broke off and the chassis, containing Lamattina, cartwheeled 150m through the air before striking the track's safety barrier in a ball of flame. The wrecked chassis then skidded across the track and hit the opposite barrier before sliding to a halt 500m from where the dragster broke apart.
