plane makes belly-flop landing in new jersey

November 29, 2007 - A small, single-engine plane made an emergency landing at the Morristown Airport after its landing gear would not descend. The Cessna 172, had only one wheel descended, so the pilot performed a belly-flop landing, causing sparks to fly from the bottom as it tumbled onto the runway. Emergency fire units immediately sprayed the plane down in case of any fire and the pilot escaped the plane on his own. A second passenger also emerged from the plane, and walked off on her own, but it was not known if either was injured. The plane, registered to Ameriflyers out of Florida, had to circle the airport trying to burn off its fuel reserves before attempting the landing.
