April 1, 2008 - A police force today wrongly accused one of its officers of posting footage of a blue-light response on the internet.
A three-minute clip appeared on YouTube showing a patrol car travelling at high speed along the A14 near Ipswich, Suffolk.
Earlier today, Suffolk police said an investigation was under way to find the "officer" responsible.
But the force later said it had established it was a doctor who had made the video.
"We have now identified the passenger who posted the footage of this genuine emergency call on YouTube as a doctor who was accompanying a traffic officer on patrol to gain an understanding of the policing service in Suffolk," said a Suffolk police spokeswoman.
"We have spoken to the passenger about his behaviour, which we feel to be inappropriate."
The spokeswoman added: "The officer driving the patrol car did so appropriately and safely in response to a genuine emergency and we would like to reassure the public that no road traffic offences were committed."
But in a statement released earlier today, before the doctor's involvement emerged, Suffolk police said: "Clearly, we are extremely disappointed that an officer has chosen to post this footage on the internet.
