December 5, 2008 - Sergeant Mike Piazza was responding to a hit-and-run call at 21st Street and Mississippi Boulevard in Bettendorf, Iowa around 10:00 Monday morning. There, he had not one, but two very close encounters because of the slick streets.
He says he watched as the driver of an SUV came down a hill, lost control and smashed into a pole. The vehicle then hit another utility pole, which sparked a small explosion and knocked-out power. But neither impact stopped the SUV, which kept coming down the hill toward the officer's squad car.
Sergeant Piazza started to back-up his squad, trying to get out of the way. The truck finally came to a stop. But the danger didn't end there. As the Sergeant went to the vehicle to check out the driver, another driver came down the hill and started to slide toward the SUV.
