baker of 'drunken negro cookies' apologizes

January 23, 2009 - Arnold Diaz's report about a pastry shop in Greenwich Village selling what the owner called "Drunken Negro Face" cookies generated strong reactions. Hundreds of people commented on Arnold Diaz's online blog. Dozens more called the store owner to express their outrage. At first, Ted Kefalinos said he didn't see anything offensive about the cookies or their name (he said they were "in honor" or the inauguration of President Barack Obama), but now he says he feels terribly. He apologizes to his customers and the community.
