ANOTHER YEAR, A FEW MORE GRAY HAIRS...

Posted: Friday, February 23, 2007

OK, so I am one year closer to being an old fart. Yesterday was my 33rd birthday, and I've got a few more gray hairs speckled through my sideburns than I did last year. I'm still arguing that the existence of those hairs are stress-related, but it could just be that I am aging.

I have managed to navigate the last decade or so without drawing too much attention to my birthday, because for some reason I've always felt that I wasn't deserving of the attention. This year, however, I had a lot of people wishing me a happy day via Email, text message, phone call or even notes via MySpace. I'll be honest; I needed the observance this year, because the last 12 months haven't been the most amazing for me.

Without going into details, I'll just say that I'd rather not re-live the past year or so. It's one thing to have a bad day or a bad week, but to come to a realization that a pattern of behavior you've been engaged in for a long time has been absolutely wrontg/unhealthy/inappropriate, and that immediate change of that behavior is mandatory... well, it's a bitch. I'm working on changing, but change sucks. Change takes work. Change takes time, and time is something that's been pretty damn scarce in my life.

To everyone who wished me a happy birthday and some kind words yesterday... I say 'thanks so much'... because I really needed it.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU NEED HELP?

Posted: Tuesday, February 13, 2007

I think I'm finally ready to admint that I need MORE HELP with this (website) part of my existence. How do I know I need help?

  • I'm still not sleeping enough
  • I've taken on so many new obligations, that I'm constantly overwhelmed
  • The only advice anyone can seem to give me is "Slow down, man"
  • If I slow down even for 30 minutes, the work doesn't go anywhere. It just piles up
  • I'm busier and unhappier now than I was six months ago
  • I keep getting told that this 'stuff' I'm doing is all for the best
  • There are people in my life I would like to spend time with, and I can't because I have busied myself up so much.

  • For these reasons, I need HELP. As much as I can get.

    - Can you spot a decent viral video?
    - Do you have experience in web design/coding (Cold Fusion preferred)?
    - Do you know how to edit photos and videos?
    - How are you at graphic design?
    - Ever work on a big ass website?
    - Wanna donate your skills to a guy who is close to jumping out of a skyscraper window?
    Sealed

    Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure ya do!

If you're interested in helping out with the site, EMAIL JEFF AND I WITH YOUR CONTACT INFO AND CREDENTIALS, and we'll get back to you ASAP.

    BIRTHDAY THANK YOU'S

    Posted: Saturday, February 26, 2005

The last thing I want to be known as is ungrateful or unappreciative, so I want to take a few minutes to thank the folks who sent me some goodies for my birthday:

Flame Stool Guy - Been trying to figure out who the hell sent the wonderful Flaming Bar Stool to the studio (I know it wasn't a birthday gift, but I can't seem to find out who sent it). It's sitting in the producer's booth, and is used as a perch for many staffers during the Opie and Anthony Show.

Richard from the UK - Thank you so much for the copy of TommyLand. I can't wait to read what Tommy Lee has to say about...stuff.

Denis from Wharton, NJ - Thank you for the big ol' stack of Chuck Palahniuk books. The first thing I will do this afternoon is perch myself on the throne and crack open Fight Club... now that I have seen the movie a hundred times, I might as well read the sucker.

Thanks again... way too cool of you.

    SERIOUSLY STUPID EMAIL FOR 2/22/05

    Posted: Tuesday, February 22, 2005

This Stupid Email came in very early on the morning of my birthday with the title of 'are you sure steve c is on your side', so you imagine how much I did NOT want to read this shit. I get letters like this every so often, but if this guy thinks that he's going to circumvent me and go to Op, thinking that I won't see this shit...well, he's dead-ass wrong. It was sent to Opie, who sent it to me...so I felt the need to respond as quickly and fiercely as I possibly could... This guy really caught me at a bad time.

    Stupid Email:
cus the opie and anthony website still fucking blows as far as in studio pictures go. i had to go to wackbag to get a link to the stalker patty video, not to the show website which has no link. to his credit though it does have a link to his birthday wish list and the dead link to the paris hilton pictures. last time i was complaining about there being only four mardi gras photos, hey, now theres 6. still unlinked but 6 is more than 4, i gotta give the website that. it just pisses me off cus i want the show to do well and this is a major area that's slacking. stern, who once complained that an webpage should only have 1 thing on it so its easier to navigate, is now murdering you guys as far as online interaction goes. that makes me want to puke. foundry is a great, well designed site that i check every day, and i just gotta believe that if half the effort that goes into it went into opieandanthony.com there would be an internet buzz that pulls in more listeners. also, if youre interested in message boards go to www.centerfuse.net.

    Response to Stupid Email :
Dude. I'm going to be perfectly honest and tell you that I really hate looking at shit like this first thing in the morning. I'm working 18 hours a day between producing the O&A show and working on this website, and I am seriously fucking sorry if that's not good enough for you.

We don't have better photos for the Mardi Gras event. A fan sent us 50 on a CD-R; 45 of which weren't that great. At least the guy took the time to actually HELP OUT, and contrbute something, and not just complain because his every need isn't being catered to. I have plenty of video, but I'm running out of hours in the day to edit it. I think, that considering that my crew and I have been doing this website for the fans, for free, since 1998, and NO ONE has come up with anything even remotely close since, that you should stop your whining.

There will NEVER be a message board on this website. It's not going to happen. There isn't enough manpower to moderate it, and I don't think anyone on this radio show wants to deal with the aggrivation. The mere suggestion that Stern's online presence is superior is laughable. It's not.

Tell you what... you don't like the dead link to the Paris Hilton photos? YOU go find me a working one. Those links go dead within an hour of me posting them. YOU go do something other than fucking whine to Opie.

You impress ME for a change. Fuck, this is irritating.

WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN 'BROADCAST INDECENCY'? I'LL TELL YOU...

    Posted: Saturday, February 28, 2004

Updated 3-6-04: More Books to read

Chances are, this post is going to be updated several times, so keep your eye on it, and feel free to CONTRIBUTE anything you feel it's lacking.

This website has never, until very recently been a vehicle for myself, or anyone, to voice political concerns. We've all been quite happy making this a sanctuary for folks (ok, mostly guys) to hang out, catch up on their favorite radio show, rock bands, and smut... you know, things we all share a common love of.

That's been just fine and dandy. Until recently.

I have been deluged with frantic Emails from people over the past week or so (ever since the Broadcast Indecency Hearings began) about how upset they are that the Government in this country is attempting to police what it is we can listen to on the radio, watch on television, or do in the comfort of our own homes.

Most of these letters have the same tone and/or phrasing:
"I have a job. I pay taxes. I'm a parent. Why can't I decide for myself what I can listen to in my own home?"

"Dude, can you post links to the Federal Communications Commission website?" (There you go).

"Hey, why don't you post a link to A LIST OF EVERY U.S. SENATOR so that I can write to mine and tell him/her how I feel?" (Ask, and ye shall receive)

Anthony made an excellent points with his recent Commentary on the Broadcast Indecency Hearings. He pointed out that several members of that committee mentioned the word "protection" as if the American people were in serious need of "protection" from Janet Jackson's nipple or a few dick jokes. While I think every single one of us agrees that we don't want the Federal Government telling us what we should be listening to on the radio or watching on television, or policing our activity within the confines of our own homes (providing you're not molesting a goat. Goats are our friends), I submit to you that there are more important issues to be concerned with. Issues that will affect YOU and ME and OUR CHILDREN within the span of our natural lives. Perhaps we need "protection" from more serious threats.

More important than Broadcast Indecency Issue 1: If you've tuned in to MSNBC, FOX NEWS, or CNN over the past few days, you saw Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan commenting on the state of Social Security in the U.S.. If you haven't, here it is in a nutshell: The Baby Boomer generation is going to start retiring en masse very soon, and there aren't going to be substantial benefits to support them in old age. The money coming out of YOUR paycheck in the form of Social Security tax every month is not sitting in a pile somewhere waiting for you to collect it. It's helping old people now. The problem is not with people getting old (it happens to us all), but rather at the current rate with which the government spends money, and the working population not growing substantially to support the financial burdens, there won't be enough money when ANY OF US needs it when we get old.

Don't like it? You can help if you want. Register to vote. Get on it. Now.

More important than Broadcast Indecency Issue 2: You really want to freak out? Check out Life After The Oil Crash. It's a very gloomy (but well-researched) look at the future of the world if another method of alternative energy is not developed (and developed on a massive scale) soon. Yes, it's extremist. No, this is not new information. If you're old enough to have lived through The Energy Crisis of the 1970s, this sounds very familiar. The only problem is that very few concessions have been made to come up with a feasible form of alternative energy since then. Sure, there's Solar, Wind, Hydrogen, Nuclear, and other alternatives, but they don't exist in large enough quantities to sustain the planet when all THE OIL RUNS OUT...which is going to happen. No one's debating that at all. Depending on what you read, some experts say the crunch won't start until 2020, and some say it's going to happen within the next five to ten years. Again, do some reading and decide for yourself. Do a Google search on "peak oil" or "energy crisis". See what the extreme right, the extreme left, and everyone in the middle has to say about it. Yes, the companies that produce products made from fossil fuels provide jobs that drive this country's economy. It doesn't mean we're not headed toward a cliff when all the gas runs out, so to speak.

Scared S***less yet? Register to vote. You can help change things if you want. CONTACT YOUR SENATOR. Speak up.

More important than Broadcast Indecency Issue 3: Unless the government alters their spending severely, there's going to be a MASSIVE BUDGET DEFICIT in the next ten years (even more massive than the trillions of dollars that it is now). Who is going to pay it off? Your kids, most likely. A lot of the deficit is being blamed on the ecenomic recession, which some will argue Bush inherited, and the September 11th attacks. We're not blaming anyone, but it doesn't diminish the fact that it's not there. If you haven't already, check out MoveOn.org and watch the 30 second commercial you didn't get to see during the Superbowl.

Register to vote yet? If so, make sure you DO vote in your local elections and presidential elections.

More important than Broadcast Indecency Issue 4: If you're a computer programmer, customer assistance worker, or laborer, you already know about this one. U.S. jobs are being exported to other countries by the thousands. Workers outside the U.S. will work for HALF, IF NOT LESS of what we will. Again, nothing new here, this has been going on for ages with manufacturing jobs. The more global the economy gets, the more this is going to happen. In order to stay competitive, companies are finding cheap QUALITY labor outside the U.S. Did you know that a lot of calls you make to customer service when your computer conks out are being routed to India? A popular trend in India now is losing the Indian accent (scroll about halfway down). It's not enough to learn English, get straight-A's, and work WAY cheaper than anyone else in the U.S. with the same skills, but now it's considered a competitive edge to get rid of your accent if it's too thick. Talk about a work ethic!

Do we have to keep saying it? Register to vote..

More important than Broadcast Indecency Issue 5: It's no secret that the education system in the U.S. isn't exactly producing generations of geniuses. Sadly, you and I are generally regarded throughout the world as dumb as rocks. Oh, and we all think we're going to grow up to be millionaires, rock stars, actors and models... and live in enormous houses with H2's in the driveway. Realistic, eh? (I can't imagine why this is the case; Our brains aren't totally being soaked with reality TV, which produces instant celebrities, and teachers are being compensated SOOOO well, aren't they?...end sarcasm)

How can YOU affect any of these issues, all of which are more important than protecting us from 'Broadcast Indecency'?

REGISTER TO VOTE and then MAKE SURE YOU VOTE. It's only ONE thing you can do, There are plenty of other ways to contribute.. No one wants to hear you bitch if you're not willing to pitch in.

    Get Educated
Start reading some books. Don't take any one source as gospel. Read as much as you can from as many sources so that you can make up your own mind.
Check out Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore and Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. When those get you good an riled up, go read Sean Hannity's Deliver Us from Evil : Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism as well as Rush Limbaugh's See, I Told You So...and if you really feel brave, read Ann Coulter's Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right... then take a break for a few days... Then go read Bill Maher's When You Ride Alone You Ride with Bin Laden: What the Government Should be Telling Us to Help Fight the War on Terrorism... as well as (and this one's a goodie) The Culture of Fear: Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things. Again, read information from all sides. Get Educated. Then make up your own mind.

Just for the hell of it, read Gene Simmons' new book, Sex Money Kiss. Once you pick through all the egotism and KISS merchandising propaganda, you'll realize his amazing work ethic. The guy doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs. He works. When he gets done working, he works some more. He's living proof that the American dream is alive and well if you want to put in the work. You might not get to be a billionaire, millionaire, or live in a mansion, but you can do well for yourself if you take some initiative.

Accept the fact that your lifestyle may have to change:
We all got used to increased airport security, right? Sure, nobody enjoys having to take off their shoes and basically strip naked before getting on a plane, but we all suck it up, because it just might prevent a few people from flying planes into buildings. The same concept is going to apply to other aspects of our lives eventually. Not immediately...but very gradually, Americans are going to be required to scale back their lifestyles...and live a litte more like the rest of the people on the planet. (Just as a quick side note: I'm not holding myself up as a shining example of how to live your life. I was a fat, over-indulgent, and hugely ignorant mess for the vast majority of my formative years. It's only when you get out and have to start making a living for yourself and/or your family that your perspective changes...sometimes very drastically.)

We're all going to have to live with less. Period. No one is asking you to live in a cardboard box, but human beings can survive with smaller cars, smaller houses, less food, fewer TV sets and fewer clothes. Just ask people in Europe who pay upwards of 60% income tax and pay five or six bucks for gas. They can do it. So can you and I. Not everything has to be "super-sized"

...and just in case it hasn't been beaten to death enough...REGISTER TO VOTE ... If you're old enough to, and you haven't, do it. That's the first step of the very gradual process of improving life for yourself and for the rest of us.
The point of listing these items was to exemplify that there are so many more important things for the government of this country to be "protecting" us from than Janet Jackson's right nip or shock jocks. As far as political commentary, I'm not sure how much more of this kind of material is warranted on a website like this, because there are plenty of other folks, conservatives and liberals alike, who do a way better job than any of us. We're quite happy being a hangout for our (mostly male) audience. We don't, however, want to be told HOW to present the material we're presenting...hence this little diatribe.

If there's something you think should have been added added to this mess, or a book you'd like to recommend, PIPE UP, SONNY BOY and it will be added in. (Unless of course you want to write in to tell me to go F*** myself. Those are special. I like to frame those letters)

    3-6-04 Update:
It was brought to my attention that another few books we should be reading are:
The Thomas Paine Reader - Topics that are still being debated today.

The Federalist Papers - "If the United States was truly to be a single nation, its leaders would have to agree on universally binding rules of governance"

Democracy in America - "One of the few good books by a Frenchy"

(Thanks to Jay for this heads up on the new reading)

    THIS WEEK @ OPIEANTHONY.COM

    Posted: Thursday, February 22, 2001

This week I'd like to deter from the usual board talk, except for one thing. We are now testing the newest version of the opieanthony.com unofficial message board. We are switching servers and the board is changing just a little bit. Everyone is encouraged to check out the site at http://207.99.78.78/ and try testing it out yourself.

Now, on to a few things that have really pissed me off in the past week or so. First of all; what the fuck is wrong with George Steinbrenner giving Daryl Strawberry another chance? Are you fucking kidding me? I guess he's gonna have to pull an O.J, or a Pedro Guerrero in order to get the boot for good. It's so sad how this guy has been on house arrest for the past few months, and now he gets to play baseball again. Ugh.

Another thing that really pissed me off was the fucking grammys! What a pile of pathetic rat shit that was. One of the only things that was anywheres near o.k was the fact that Eminem slipped in a few shits while he was performing. I thought Elton John was fucking horrible and made a mockery of a pretty good song. The show dragged horribly and all the live performances were terrible. The awards were given to shitty performers and artists, and the only thing that was great about the show was Jon Stewart as the host. Even though the crowd didn't seem to dig Jon too much, I think he's taken another big step in his career.

Finally I was pissed off at Giants stadium for not serving beer through the XFL game. The Hitmen are bad enough to watch, but then to have to watch the second half sober?? I am outraged!! The tailgate before the game was cool, and the stadium was pretty packed for such a terrible football game. Section 119 was awesome of course, because it was filled with O&A fans! Thank god Chirs Puleri was finally pulled, and if he didn't start the game, they may have had a chance to win. But a huge FU to the meadowlands for not serving beer!

First let me introduce myself to UFNtools-take off the s and you have the best transportation site in the city!!!

My name is LimoAnthony and I have been hanging with O & A for two years. I have seen this duo go from the phones not ringing and praying for a celebrity to call, to now being the feature show on the XFL which is is a partner of NBC. I have seen cast members die ( AKA-Spaz ), to members using other radio names on the weekend ( AKA-Max ) to new acts like Jim Norton and  even Sandi Kane ( eh-eh-eh). Opie and Anthony is WNEW!!! Management better not forget this come June or can you say "revolt"!!!  ( The three exclamation points are my trademark, Anthony) If you read this on the air!!!

Each week ( if I survive) my column will make little quotes about sports, life and the O & A show. Thats it, nothing more and nothing less!!! I hope you like it and godspeed ( I feel like Evander Holyfield )!!!

The Lindsey Nelson sportsjacket fits you well, "dickhead"!!!

"Back to you- Rusty"!!!  Do you realize that after the first quarter in the first XFL game in Orlando they went through 18 kegs of beer!!! Enough said, this league will make it just on mere beer consumption!!!

The Knicks make the finals in the NBA and lose to the Lakers!!! After they win the world finds out that Shaq and Kobe are a gay couple!!! Thats why they always fight!!!

    I hate GayMarco!!!

Did the Hockey season start yet!!! Did the Islanders win a game yet?!!!

    MORE BOARD TALK

    Posted: Monday, February 12, 2001

This past week saw the board passing the mark of 10,000 members. At the time that I'm writing this there are currently 10,246 member of opieanthony.com. The past week has also seen other things. There were the numerous XFL pictures, your usual spamming of the board, and the announcement from board owner Froy, that we would be holding the first annual opieanthony.com official board party.

The official board party's loacation has yet to be determined, but it is needed. As many of you who are members know; the board recieves a hell of a lot of traffic. The guys pay in bandwith, and with all the plugs from the show that they get, they usually go over their allotted space, which can cause for some hefty bills. Froy has recentley asked that members help out with donations, but we all know that a lot of people are all talk and no action. Opieanthony.com is hands down, the best O&A messgae board on the web, and even the guys know it because Anthony posts here himself. So even if you aren't a member, we urge you to check it out and help us out in keeping the biggest and best O&A message board alive.

This week also saw the second taping of the O&A XFL pregame show. I didn't make it out to the first one, but I did get a chance to check this one out. I must say the crowd was pretty decent and I was a little scared when Stalker Patty came and sat at the table behind us, but she then aquired her own stalker so now she knows how it feels! A bunch of us from the site met up at the resturant to take in the taping. O&A were on stage for probably a total of 40 minutes if even that long, and they managed to make us all sick when they brought Sandy Kane and Mendi on stage to strip for us. Talk about fucking disgusting...Rick seemed to be one of the only people that was full of energy, and Ant's brother Joe performed the famous Cunt song to the delight of the crowd. Most of the people that were in the pit, were loud and obnoxious like most of us, but there were a lot of people that were just plain fucking retarded! People screaming that O&A looked like faggots, that they can't act, scream shit about radio edit, I mean just plain moronic stuff. My whole understanding was that FANS of O&A were supposed to go to the tapings. But hey, I guess people are gonna be assholes weather you like it or not. All in all, I was expecting a road show type of mentality from the show so I was dissapointed at first, but after I realized my high expectations I must say it wasn't bad at all.

Also last week on the show saw the culmination of the best boobs contest. While many thought that Jen was going to win, I think there was a little bit of a surprise whan Kat took home the crown. It was decided on by us, the fans of the Opie and Anthony show, which is one of the things that makes me love this show more than any other. Jen respectfully took home 2nd place and Mary came in third. Next up on the horizon will be the best ass contest, but O&A said they will take off a few weeks from the contests, and start up full steam again.

And last but not least, we heard the wheel of crap this week. All of the guys who participated in this have guts of steel because the shit that they were eating would make any normal person sick to their stomach immediatley. And after eating things off of Sandy Kane, I think everyone in this contest should've gotten a prize. kudos to you guys.

So in conclusion I would like to say that I enjoy writing here on foundry, but if I have the smae outcome of last week 2 more weeks I'll be gone. So you guys make the choice..O&A forever guys...
