C2 - LUCKY

Posted: Saturday, June 28, 2008

"These were actually made for my barber nicknamed "Lucky".

He wanted a pair of kicks designed as if he just kicked his foot in a puddle of blood.

However, I put more of a "Tech Challenge" style to the splatter to make it more my style.

Not usually my thing but I feel I made it work nicely."
- C2

Now that he's done with high school, imagine what he'll do with all that time on his hands!

STRINGER REPUBLIC

Posted: Friday, June 20, 2008

"Stéphane Bucco, the graphic artist, internationally renowned as Sockho, has created STRING REPUBLIC in 2004 to illustrate what happens when graphic arts and daily life merge. After renowned exhibitions and collaborations, Stéphane wants to find new Material supports of creation. Like the designers of the 50’s, STRING REPUBLIC wants to enhance products and make them more beautiful. And Stéphane likes to quote Raymond Loewy who said that “ugly things sell badly”. Nowadays... useful things sell badly. The amazing revival of the flip flops and the clogs remind him of the espadrilles his grand-father used to offer him every summer when he was a kid. The concept is born; see an old product like the espadrille differently! The espadrille is given as an anachronistic material support to about thirty of the greatest international grafic artists, who evolve in very different aesthetic universes."

Summer is here and not all ladies want to rock forces and jordans that act as humidifiers in the dog days of summer.

http://i28.tinypic.com/20krh94.jpg

Enter Stringer Republic.

Stringer Republic shows a strong pallette of colors combined with intense graphics.

These shoes are catchy and the artwork is infectious.

If they ever come up with mens line, id be down.

The graphics speak for themselves, with artists such as Skwak, Attaboy, Keepmesane, Nate Williams and of course Sockho himself, Mr. Stephane  Bucco making contributions.

There's also some ladies underwear too with similar work.

AKALAZY X SBTG

Posted: Wednesday, June 18, 2008

from various sneaker messageboards

"inquired. 5-600.....

image
Pass like nash......price is normal, but I'd pay that price for a meth."

"

Stoneface (These could be from 2004)

These guys are two of my favorite customiser, EVER, but they're blowing it... twice. w/e  "

"so simple and yet one of my favorties from sbtg"

personally, i enjoy them as a custom.

but for it to be a collaboration between AKAlazy and SBTG it's a dissapointing.

its funny, how some collaborations work well and some dont.

after seeing these i wonder how much of meth/sbtg is split creatively.

JUNE ISS CUSTOM CONTEST

Posted: Friday, June 13, 2008

i was a judge for this months contest, there were alot of entries. some better than others, some interesting, some not.

sometimes its difficult to be not biased in these things, once you get familiar with people's work you kind of know who did what shoes becasue you can see the person's style.

i'm not told who did what, but you can pretty much narrow down who did what if that clears my pervious statement up.

what's up with all the horror/portraits this month, i felt like there was a theme and no one told me lol.

with the portraits and use of characters, make sure you can nail it down. some of the work done had some charatcters looking like anorexic or fatty mcfatfat versions of them.

this made me take some points off. and another tip, dont use the characters from already used artwork.
i mean who wants to see a pre-established rendering on a shoe, i loved the Jason's because i have not seen that artwork before and assumed it was original.

while i hated the batman vans, because a) the characters looked semi-wack b) ive seen that artwork before and it did no justice for the most part.

i liked these for the most part, i really didnt enjoy the blue in the logo. i felt a better color could have been used.

these are sick, i love them. i wish they could win, but they can't. it's just a low of the gucci dunks. and unoriginality is a points killer. but for technical work i salute these.

and these.

which were your favorites?

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Every so often we get mail from young up and coming sneaker heads who want to know about how to open sneaker stores, or if they can intern at Sneaker Freaker (unbeknownst to them we are on the other side of the world). Once in a while we have a “Dangerous Minds” moment, where the movie plot goes as follows; young kid emails their favourite magazine, explains how such magazine has inspired their class to use their vision in a creative format. Said magazine gushes with pride, returns email and invites student to submit a pictorial story to show the world just who is the “world’s best sneaker boogazine”. Magazine then publishes said pictorial story, the school gets props worldwide, inspirational rap song by current hip hop sensation swells and many a high five ensures! With thanks to Talia M. and her teacher, sneaker freaker Mr. S. along with photographer Eric Steinberg, we proudly show why we are indeed the best of the best!

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Students at my school, Ward Melville High School participated in a project inspired by Sneaker Freaker. It all started when Mr. Swierupski, known as Mr. S, brought in the Sneaker Freaker book. All the kids checked out the unique sneakers and decided that a sneaker project was in order. Next came demos by Mr. S, like how to tape off areas of the shoe and how to use letter stickers to create colored words. Then everyone brought in their own pair of plain sneakers, whether they were Nikes, Converse, or Adidas, and treated it like a clear canvas. With paint, paint pens, and spray paint available in a variety of bright and metallic colors, each student came up with their own original design, hoping they would hear Mr. S’s catch phrase, “Yeaaaa, nobody’s got that!”

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Some students just revamped the colors in their shoes or painted a cartoon character or symbol, but other artistic kids had graffiti art or their own original drawing. Fueled by the sick designs in SNKR FRKR magazine, some students took their shoe production to the next level by bringing in new fabrics. Many kids put great effort in detail, such as Corinne R., who brought in fabric and cut, glued, and pressed in pieces of it to cover the Nike Swoosh and other areas of her shoe. Then she accented the shoe with old paint, to compliment the gold thread in part of her fabric. The result was a new shoe, completely different from the plain white ones she started with. Another student, Rob G. used different color paint pens to create an eye-catching image on his shoe. One shoe reads ‘Rob’ in graffiti and the other shoe reads ‘Big.’

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

All of the kicks, displayed in a case outside the classroom with a graffiti sign drawn by Mr. S reading ‘Sneaker Freaker,’ drew much attention from other students. “I think it’s a great project. It’s a great way for students to express their creativity,” says Jose R., a senior at Ward Melville. The project is definitely a good way for the students to express creativity, and it's probably the first time that sneaker production has been a graded class project.

WHEN SNEAKERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Yes, this project is taken seriously, and each student has to fill out an evaluation sheet when they are done that basically describes how detailed they were in their project and what materials they used, as well as if they brought in their own extra stuff. It is clear that this is one special class, and all of us kids are grateful for Mr, S, knowing he brings in innovative ideas and then the little bit of hope that we will leave with our own personalized merchandise. “This project is sick, I wish I was doing it. All the shoes are coming out so crazy. I’m definitely taking this crafts class next year,” says Justine M., a junior at Ward Melville. This project shows the hard work, creativity, fun, and gratification that comes from designing a sneaker, and has created an entire class of new generation Sneaker Freakers.

Kevin Garnett, the Boston Celtics and adidas Commemorate the NBA Finals with Limited Edition Footwear Launch

All sales profits will go to NBA Cares community partners in the Boston area.

For Immediate Release – Kevin Garnett, the Boston Celtics and adidas announced today the launch of a rare version of Garnett’s 2008-09 adidas Team Signature Commander shoe.  This footwear release was designed to commemorate the Celtics’ historic run at an NBA Championship.  adidas will produce only eight pairs per game of this exciting shoe to be sold at retail, starting at 10:00am on June 5, 2008 (as few as 32 pairs or as many as 56 pairs will be available depending on the number of games The Finals goes to).  One special pair of shoes autographed by KG will be auctioned off on NBA.com after The Finals.  All profits from the sale of these shoes will go to NBA Cares community partners in the Boston area.

The adidas Team Signature KG Commander is scheduled to launch in October 2008, but for this year’s NBA Finals, Kevin Garnett will wear a special version that will be highlighted by the inclusion of the coveted Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy on the medial side, and an embroidered callout to games 1 thru 7 on the lateral side.  The number of that night’s game will be in green while the others remain white. The numbers 1 thru 7 also get larger as each game grows in significance.

“All season long it has been about we and not me, so as we head into the NBA Finals I wanted to do something special for the Boston community. That is why we came up with this limited edition adidas Team Signature KG Commander,” stated Garnett.  “Since day one, the fans of Boston have made me feel like family, so to do this and be able to give back to them is a great honor.”

Another key attribute that has adorned KG’s shoes throughout the years are his tributes to two of his good friends and mentors: Malik Sealy (former Timberwolves teammate) and Kirby Puckett (former Minnesota Twins Superstar Centerfielder).  Malik’s tribute is located under the strap and says “2 Malik”, while Kirby’s call out, “KP 34” is located on the back of the shoe, just below the adidas logo.

“KG redefines what passion means on the basketball court but this energy also spills over to include every off-court initiative that he is involved with as well,” stated Lawrence Norman, VP Global Basketball for adidas.  “His switch never turns off - KG is 100% authentic and his drive to make a difference in the community is real and ongoing. This was the perfect concept for a guy like KG and adidas to get involved with as we both enjoy finding fun, creative ways to give back to the local community.”

“KG has shown throughout his career that he is a consummate team player, whose passion for the game, his teammates and his community is unmatched,” stated Rich Gotham, President, Boston Celtics.  “KG embodies all of the characteristics that all true Celtic greats have and this is one of many ways that Kevin gives back to the city of Boston and its fans.”

The limited edition adidas Team Signature Commander will only be available at Celtics.com, the TD Banknorth Garden Pro Shop and NBA Store in New York City.  Each pair of adidas Team Signature KG Commanders will retail for $1017 (to commemorate the drive for championship #17).

PIGEONS, PIGEONS, EVERYWHERE!

Posted: Sunday, June 10, 2007

Every time I feel alone and slightly blue
That's when I begin to think of what I'd like to start to do
And though it might not be the kind of thing that's quite your cup of tea,
I recommend you pay attention to the little dance you're gonna see..
Now I love pigeons, and I love how they walk. And I've
invented a really cool dance called...

Doin' the pigeon
Doin' the pigeon
Dancin' a little smidgen of the kind of ballet
That sweeps me away
Doin' the pigeon
Doin' the pigeon
People may smile, but I don't mind
They'll never understand the kind of fun I find
People may smile, but I don't mind
They'll never understand the kind of fun I find.
Doin' the pigeon
Doin' the pigeon
Dancin' a little smidgen of the kind of ballet
That sweeps me away
Doin' the pigeon
Doin' the pigeon
Doin' the pigeon every day!

Props to Evolved Footwear for that great detailed work.

and a shout out to my boy Bert!

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 VANS

Posted: Friday, June 8, 2007

Oh. I wish you well
And I hope someday your life turns out just like you planned.
Oh. Well I hope you can
Find it in you to forget all the things I've said.
Yeah. And I know you will
Cause you're my friend and that's the nicest thing I've said: all day
I hope to god. I hope to god that someday you will understand

I don't think that you understand
The things we say are not always the things we feel
You need to think before you mistakes
Something may end up to link the reasons
Why we do the things we had to to
To the day where we were:
Prove me wrong and do what you do

I don't think that you understand
The things we say are not always the things we feel
You need to think before you mistakes
Something may end up to link the reasons
Why we do the things we had to to
To the day where we were:
Prove me wrong and do what you do

Oh. Well I hope you can
Find it in you to forget all the things I've said.
Yeah. And I know you can
Find it in you to forget all the things I've said.
