I remember this band from the 80’s it is amazing what cable did for some of us. I used to see their videos with them in the Eyeball man on USA’s Night Flight. It is now 20 years later The RESIDENTS are still going.
What we have here is the conceptual tour. This definitely isn’t my normal listening and viewing pleasure for sure. The Residents have a brand of music they play that is all their own, it’s Avant-Garde. This DVD is shot from a different standpoint. It was actually shot on the stage and the back lighting just didn’t help the transfer of this video. Somehow they tweaked this in the studio and you can actually see things well. Don’t be afraid if the screen goes dark.
This is a whole concept dealing with the male and female side and what I figured to be love gone bad? You will also see that the vocals are more on the feeling side and not going for the note. The male vocals are pretty different than what you hear everyday. The harmonies in the back really work.
You are offered the 16 tracks of this wonderland trip to the trenches. This is art and not just music. It all sort of plays out like a movie. This all revolves around the full record Demons Dance Alone. "Mr. Wonderful" is a recurring theme in the end. This one was stuck in my head. You old "new wavers" will be digging these sounds.
This gets all broken down and they unveil the trademark baby eye and the whole wrap begins. The singer goes into some tour history about JAMES BROWN coming in during sound check and that he met James in 1965. (Louisiana-based band). Just get ready for some mind melting eye bleed. It is a wild and weird one, kids.
