BLAH...BLAH...BLAH...LOVE SONGS FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM
I've been kind of split as to how I should review this disc. I mean, guitarist RIGGS was in ROB ZOMBIE's band ever since WHITE ZOMBIE morphed into Rob's solo act, and that he was partially responsible for Rob's signature sound during that time, so I can understand how he might want to build on that sound. The problem is this: the Zombie fans didn't get the memo stating that it was OK for Riggs to go off on his own and sound a lot like Zombie. The fans are going to hear this disc, and they're going to hear Zombie-era riffs. Then they're going to see the artwork, and they're going to see Zombie-esque artwork. Before they give the songs a chance, they're going to scream "DOOD, YER RIPPIN' OFF ROB!"...which is a shame, because
Blah Blah Blah Love Songs for the New Millennium is a really good debut. Persoonally, I really LOVED that concept of blending crunchy riffs with old film dialouge and heavily processed vocals... so I'm into this disc regardless of who else it sounds like.
With minor exception, the eleven tracks ont this disc are exceptional, and the label is doing a ton of promotion, so these guys will make somewhat of a splash. As usual, I like other songs on the disc more than I like the single. I think "Murder Song" beats the shit out of "Get Your Dead On", but that's ok... that's just my opinion. The 'minor exception' I'm referring to, by the way, is the song "Pornstarchampion". There are enough covers of "We Will Rock You" until the end of the time. Period. End of discussion.
I hope they evolve though, because if Rob Zombie ever records another disc, he's going to one-up these guys and himself like you wouldn't believe.
