SOUTHSIDE DOUBLE-WIDE ACOUSTIC LIVE

I can never lay enough praise on SEVENDUST. Half the bands that have come and gone in the past decade, many of which have become exponentially more famous than Sevendust, hail these guys as influences...

...So why haven't the members of Sevdendust become the icons they deserve to be?

I realliy couldn't tell you. These guys should be MASSIVELY popular, but they're just not. Fuck it, I've been a fan ever since the first time I saw them some seven years ago.

You wouldn't think that their songs would be conducive to an acoustic setting, but Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live proves that they are. Sure, there's a lot of clunking down on the lower two strings on the acoustic guitars, but John Connelly and Clint Lowery pull off their guitar duties perfectly. Morgan Rose and Vince Hornsby are able to tone down their attack so that the rhythm section isn't so brutal...but still remains powerful. Lajon's voice would hold up if he was singing the Oscar Meyer theme; his pipes fit over dirty, electric...whatever you need.

Obviously, Songs like "Xmas Day", "Angel's Son", and the cover of "Hurt" (a tribute to the late Johnny Cash) work well acoustically. I was shocked to hear how well "Black", "Trust", and "Too Close To Hate" worked acoustically. The re-arranged tracks sound just fine with the lack of distortion.

The DVD version of the show is really great, because you see the intimate setting the band was in, and how their songs contrast (at times) the very mellow stage decor. Taped in front of a hometown crowd in Georgia, the crowd really gets into each track these guys plow through.

I'm glad there are both CD and DVD versions of Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live included. The DVD won't leave my PC for a while, and I can keep the CD copy in my car. OK, off I go to drool over this one some more...
