BILL HICKS - Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian

If there was any justice in the world, BILL HICKS would be alive today, and would be the most popular stand-up comic/social commentator/satirist/whatever...

However, the real world is a shitty, unfair, cruel place sometimes (well, in all honesty...it's MOST of the time), and in true 'real world' form, Hicks is no more (he passed away from cancer in February of 1994), and the masses will have to be introduced to his material like so many young guitar players are introduced to the blues; you have to be led to it, and told that THIS is what clever is. THIS is what comedy should be. The fact that Bill Hicks is dead and a guy like Carrot Top is alive is a real fucking tragedy.

I remember when I first saw Hicks' act. It was on a Rodney Dangerfield Young Comedian Special on HBO in 1987. I was 13 years old, and I remember him being funny, but I didn't quite grasp the humor at the time (especially since Robert Schimmel was telling his 'string of beads up the ass' joke...which at the time was funnier to my 13 year old brain). After checking out more of his material though, I realized how brilliant his material really was. If only there were some network TV executives with some testicular fortitude, maybe Bill Hicks would have experienced more success than he did.

Bill Hicks Live - Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian is a collection of Bill Hicks' finest performances:
One Night Stand: from the Old Vic Theatre in Chicago (approx 30 minutes)
Revelations: from the Dominion Theatre in London (approx 65 minutes)
Relentless: from the Montreal Comedy Festival (approx 70 minutes)

The disc also features the featurette Just A Ride, which chronicles' Bill's life through interviews with some of his closest peers: Brett Butler, Eddie Izzard, Richard Jeni, Jay Leno, David Letterman and Thea Vidale.

If you think you've heard edgy, witty, political commentary, and you HAVEN'T checked out Bill Hicks... you're missing out more than you know.

Bill Hicks Live - Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian is the FIRST DVD from Hicks' collection...and one of the few comedy DVDs you should make sure you own
