eMOTIVE

Very few bands can pull off making a CD of covers, A PERFECT CIRCLE is one of them. When you first see the track listing on eMOTIVE you’re going to say “What the hell? Why would I buy this?” But if you manage to get it into your CD player you will change your tune rather quickly.

There is one song on the CD that is a real original and one that is considered an original, but really it’s just a remix. “Passive,” the true original, is nothing short of classic APC, its dark, moody, and catchy as hell…one of those songs that will get stuck in your head for HOURS (kind of like that “The internet is for porn” song, from OnA). The other song, the remix, is called “Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums.” Long title, but it’s a great remix of “Pet” from The Thirteenth Step. “Pet” had its own meaning, the way this was remixed, it takes on a whole new point of view. The evil sounding “Go back to sleep!” in the middle makes it a real powerful song.

The rest of the album is covers, everything from John Lennon’s “Imagine,” to Marvin Gaye’s “What’s goin on.” Also, Maynard isn’t the only one doing vocals this time around. Billy gets to take the mic and belt out a few tunes too. One thing you need to know, don’t buy this thinking that the songs are going to be as upbeat as the originals; if there’s one thing APC knows how to do, it’s take a joyful, happy sounding song, and make it somber and dark.
