This album was recorded right here in my home state, pretty cool. I don’t really know what to say about this album. It’s not bad and it’s not terrible. There’s actually a few different kinds of songs on here. There’s stuff that reminds me of old fashioned 80’s underground metal. Note: underground metal, the good stuff, not that RATT, POISON, WINGER shit. There are also songs that have a more contemporary metal sound, and some songs that almost lean towards death/black metal. That last comparison is a loose one, but if you listen hard enough, the sounds and the styles are there.
I’m growing tired of bands that sing about dragons and angels and witches and things. It’s OK on concept albums, but if you pull a DIO or YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and have 99% of your music about wizards and witches and devils and stuff, it’s bound to get stale. I’m not really knocking these guys for it, because it isn’t something that bothers me that much, but I do hope that people can start coming up with new subjects for their music. Then again, when you name your band Seven Witches, I guess there’s a slight limitation as to what you sing about.
One thing that would be pretty cool is to see these guys live. The official line-up of the band is a singer, a bass player and a guitarist. No drummer, they had a session drummer record on the album and they have another guy that goes on tour and does drums when they play live. In situations like that it’s always interesting to see the differences in the 2 drummers styles when they play.
This CD would be great for DIO and IRON MAIDEN fans. Everyone else, I would encourage you to check out the MP3’s on their site (once those are uploaded, right now it says “coming soon”) and give it a listen first.
