HAYSEED DIXIE - AC/DC TRIBUTE

YEEEEEE-HAW!!!! It's a country-fied tribute to AC/DC! I lived in Nashville, Tennesee for a little while some five or so years ago, I have gained an appreciation for country music. While not a rabid, confederate flag-waving fan, I am amazed that some of these people can write different songs with the same friggin' three chords. After a more careful listen to this disc, I am even crazier about it than I was initially. First off, whether or not it's true, the backstory to this whole disc is pretty incredible. Apparently, these four hillbillies in a bluegrass band from a place called... now get this... "Deer Lick Holler" ...sheesh! (It's an area "completely isolated from outside cultural and musical influences") ...Well, one day, a stranger passing through town wrapped his brand new muscle car around a tree and died. In the car was an entire collection of AC/DC albums...which these hillbillies took home and played on their Victrola at 78 R.P.M. The end result is a collection of AC/DC cover tunes, but done in bluegrass fashion, which, by some miracle, were played for some Nashville music executive, who signed them to a record deal. My guess is that this is TOTAL AND COMPLETE BULLSHIT, and that some music industry guy in Nashville had a brainstorm one day and decided to create the redneck version of Spinal Tap. Regardless, if you've ever been curious to hear country-bluegrass versions of AC/DC songs, this will definitely satisfy all of those curiosities. You haven't heard "T.N.T" until you've heard it with a bunch of hillbillies singing "Oink! Oink! Oink!" through the opening.
