DEMON DAYS
Those who loved the debut CD will be in for a slight surprise with
Demon Days. BLUR frontman Damon Albarn is still aboard as well as the artwork of
Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett. That's it. Del The Funky Homosapien (the main voice of their hit 'Clint Eastwood') and Dan The Automator (who manned the boards for
Gorillaz) are both gone. DJ Danger Mouse, (the mastermind of The Beatles/Jay-Z mash-up
The Grey Album) is behind the board now and the guest stars range from DE LA SOUL, Nenah Cherry and MF Doom, to Dennis Hopper and Ike Turner (yes
, that Ike Turner). The results are a darker, trippier, follow-up. 'Feel Good', and 'Dirty Harry', would fit perfectly at your favorite chill spot while 'Every Planet We Reach Is Dead' and 'All Alone' sounds something more suited for the planet Mars. 'Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head' is a spoken word piece featuring Dennis Hopper and
starts a sweeping three-song suite that features Albarn and a string section and The London Community Choir
.
Albarn and his crew could've repeated the same formula that helped
Gorillaz sell over 6 million copies. Instead, they took more risks, got more experimental and came up with an equally strong follow-up.
