TRYING TO BE ME - SINGLE

If you were wondering what NICKELBACK's Chad Kroeger was up to while his band readies the follow-up to The Long Road, you'll find him all over Tommy Lee's new single. I saw the single up on iTunes, and heard the preview, and I just HAD to hear the full song.

First off, Chad Kroeger is a guest performer on this song, but this isn't a Tommy Lee track. This is a Nickelback song. If it's not a leftover from Chad Kroeger's songbook, it's a shell of a song that Tommy brought to Chad to re-work and jizz all over, because every melody, chord progression, vocal nuance, is reminiscient of every song Nickelback has ever recorded. This isn't new; artists sing other writers' songs all the time, but Tommy's doing his best Chad impression with every verse he sings on "Trying To Be Me". I'm sure Kroeger was thrilled to get the call from Tommy to help collaborate on this disc, too...he's a huge Mötley Crüe fan.

Getting input from the Nickelback seems to be paying off, because as I write this, "Trying to be Me", which is the first single from Tommy's upcoming Tommyland: The Ride, which hits stores on August 9th, was the #1 most-added song in Active Rock.

I'm curious to hear the rest of the new disc. Is he going to change styles like a chameleon with every song, or is this just the commercial-sounding fluke that is getting released as a single to focus some attention on the Crue drummer whose plunge into hip-hop was a world-class belly-flop.
