DIGIMORAL
Shit. Another concept Album. I suppose I'll get my reading glasses out and pay attention to the lyrics.
Fear Factory's fourth album, Digimortal, is just that...a concept album. about what? Well, the Los Angeles industrial-metal band is using one of their favorite storylines; One we've seen before from them.
Digimortal is a concept album about the blending of man and machine (Like I said, we've seen this from Fear Factory before). The disc's eleven tracks serve up screaming electronics and punishing low-end death-metal dynamics, until you want to gouge your eye sockets with a fork.
The first single, "Linchpin", is classic Fear Factory; chunky guitars, machine-like drums, and growling mixed with haunting melodic vocals.
Guitarist Dino Cazares and drummer Raymond Herrera served tenure in the none-more-metal terrorist troupe Brujeria shortly before the release of Digimortal, but it didn't sway them from coming back to the more structured Fear Factory machine.
I'm a little surprised they didn't take any cues from their recent success with their cover of Gary Numan's "Cars" from 1999's Obsolete (which featured vocals from the synth pioneer Gary Numan himself), but that just shows you how they refuse to pigeon-hole themselves.
By the way, if you're in the mood for kicking the crap out of someone, feel free to crank up track 8..."Back the F**k Up," featuring Cypress Hill's B-Real, is exemplary of how Rap-Rock SHOULD sound. Take THAT you red cap-wearing automotons.
