WHAT THE MIND PERCEIVES
I was all set to bash
What The Mind Perceives (I know I know, what else is new, right?) and I honestly can’t stand the vocals, and the lyrics are purely dumb. For example, the first two lines of the chorus of the opening track “Rise Above The Weak” goes like this: “You can’t hurt me, you don’t even know my pain.” Lemme tell ya, that’s some ingenious stuff right there. What I get from that, is that you are already in pain, since you have it, and I don’t know it. It’s a mystery, but you still have pain…ok…so why would I even try to hurt you? My job is already done for me. Moving on…
As far as the music goes, the rhythms aren’t too bad, but predictable. Nothing wrong with being predictable, but the other problem is that there are few hooks in the songs, so it’s predictable and you can’t tell the songs apart. What this means is that if you had this on as background music while you did some stuff around the house, you would think you were listening to one really long song…trust me…I did this.
All of these Deathcore/Death Metal/Whatever the hell bands try and be unique, but they all sound alike after a while, so what exactly are they accomplishing? And quite honestly, the music isn’t half bad, some of the guitar playing, while not totally impressive, can at least be appreciated for being more than mediocre. My only advice is that the singer checks out a drug store for some
Vicks cough drops.
