FANASTIC FOUR - SOUNDTRACK
I'm not really sure how many of the 20 tracks of music included on the
Fantastic Four Soundtrack
are going to be IN the film, but if I had to take a wild guess, I'd say
two or three
(*7-8-2005
update: OK, now that I have actually SEEN the film, for better or
worse, I can verify that a significant portion of the songs on the
soundtrack are actually IN the film...so there you go. I was wrong). Soundtracks like this (and please, don't confuse a
'score' with a soundtrack...the 'score' is the orchestral composition
you hear in most moder films, and those are usually sold seperately)
are becoming less a part of the film, and more of an excuse to launch a
few new artists. Sometimes it works (ie; EVANESCANCE went through the
roof after their two tracks were included in the
DAREDEVIL soundtrack...and sometimes it doesn't (anyone remember that song from EDGEWATER from the
PUNISHER soundtrack? No? Didn't think so).
With that said, the
Fantastic Four Soundtrack
has its solid moments. Most notable is the first single, "Everything
Burns" from former Evanescence founder/songwriter Ben Moody and pop
diva ANASTACIA. The song has a great hook, stands just fine on its own,
apart from the film context...and Anastasia looks really hot in the
video, which you can view online at the
official soundtrack website.
Another great addition to this compilation is "Come On, Come In" by
VELVET REVOLVER, who have no problem contirbuting great music (whether
they're throw-away's from their debut disc or new songs) to
soundtracks. What the hell, right? It's great exposure for any band.
You can also check out the video for that song online.
Getting back to the point I was making about launching new artists via
film soundtracks, two new artists are making their debut on this
soundtrack:
MEGAN McCAULEY and
OMNISOUL.
Of the two, it looks like Wind-Up records, which is releasing this
soundtrack, is making more of a push to make McCauley a star. She has
two songs featured on this disc; "Die For You" and "Reverie" have her
positioned as the next singer for Evanescence if Amy Lee ever freaks
out and leaves (not that she's GOING to...her voice is in that range
though). Delaware-based Omnisoul aren't slouches either, because
"Waiting (Save Your Life)" has hit potential as well. However, five
guys from Delaware probably will look like shit wearing push-up bras
and trashy clothes in a video ...while McCauley is going to have that
advantage should she choose to exercise it. Look, the record-buying
public (what's left of it) is pretty shallow and will most likely opt
to give their money to the hot chick in slutty clothes versus the five
disallusioned white guys from Delaware... I'm just sayin'
