PHANTOMS
Just when you thought the airwaves were full of cute guy bands singing
punk-tinged pop hits, here comes ACCEPTANCE from the Pacific Northwest
to make the girls melt and provide background music for the upcoming
season of The O.C.. If that was all this band had to offer, Phantoms,
their second full length release would be forgetable. But that isn't
the case at all.
Phantoms
is a collection of songs that are instantly infectious. The opener
“Take Cover” and “This Conversation Is Over” get into your head with
catchy choruses and solid harmonies that make it really difficult not
to hum along. While “Different” and “Glory/Us,” are two ballads that
could easily be the soundtrack to millions of teenagers losing their
virginity this summer.
But the true surprise is the musicianship. “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” is a
short instrumental that showcases Acceptance's musical prowess. It is a
song that seems like it should be on a JOE SATRIANI album instead of
amongst the other radio friendly tracks, but it does show that the
standard set by the likes of HOOBASTANK and DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL has
been raised considerably.
