With THE KILLERS and INTERPOL resurrecting the '80's retro sound of
bands like JOY DIVISION and The THE CURE, it was only a matter of time
before some band dusted off their YAZZ and ERASURE albums, bought a
vintage Casio keyboard and breathed life into a genre of music that was
barely tolerable in 1985. And in the case of ELKLAND, hardly palatable
in 2005
Frontman Jon Pierce says that “It's all about the chorus,” when
explaining his song writing technique..... Ok.... So if each song is
all about the chorus, then it's safe to say each song isn't about
anything at all.
You can hear the influence of early electronic Pop music sandwiched
between synthesizers and Pierce's deeply affected “Whoa-ho-ho” vocal
delivery, but it falls way short of heavy hitters like HUMAN LEAGUE and
DEPECHE MODE and settles somewhere between KAJAGOOGOO and the
soundtrack to
Night of the Comet.
