MERCURY
LONGVIEW's latest LP,
Mercury,
is a sweet and moody album of ballads and mid-tempo songs that create
the feeling of lamenting over a lost love on a rainy Saturday afternoon
in a small London flat. Which is pretty impressive when you consider
it's a cloudless summer afternoon in the low 90's where I am right now.
Not quite as melancholy as anything COLDPLAY has done, Longview is a
mixture of echo, reverb and warm guitar chords that could be best
described as the musical equivalent to the comfort you get from
combining a muscle relaxer and a Xanax. It's that warm mellow feeling
that permiates tunes like “Can't Explain,” “In A Dream,” and the almost
hypnotic “Nowhere”.
