GEMINI FIVE are a new band out of Sweden, and while their musical
talent is there, they seem to think it’s still about 2 decades ago.
They have the look and the sound that scream 1980’s, although their
general attitude is much more modern. The publicity for the band boasts
them as “A must have for fans of BACKYARD BABIES, MOTLEY CRUE, and
HANOI ROCKS.” This is certainly a fair description, and above all they
really do remind me a lot of Motley Crue.
Gemini Five aren’t breaking any new ground with their sound,
and it’s sad to say that they are really trying to push dated material,
they aren’t going to win over the amount of people that they really
need to in order to succeed in the American market. But for those of
you who are still hung up on the old 80’s and early 90’s type metal,
this is absolutely the CD for you.
They did a great cover of DEAD OR ALIVE's “You Spin Me Round
(Like A Record)” and while my favorite version of that song is still
DOPE’s version, Gemini Five did a damn good job on it, making it a
little more upbeat than the original. Other great songs on here include
“Babylon Rockets,” “Get It Off,” and “Poison Envy.” Babylon Rockets
also comes with 2 bonus videos for “Babylon Rockets” and “You Spin Me
Round.” Usually this is great, but don’t think about trying to actually
listen to the CD on your computer, you’ll have a hard time accessing
the actual songs. I know this is done for security reasons, but it does
make it a bit of a hassle if you are like me and like to listen right
on the computer. Also, you’ll have to manually open the video for the
title track, Windows Auto Run will open “You Spin Me Round” right away
though.
