OLEANDER - UNWIND
Unwind is Sacramento-based OLEANDER's follow-up to their 1999 gold-selling disc, February Son, and helps to establish the band as a presence in the ever-changing rock scene in the USA in 2001.
Fronted by Thomas Flowers, the group has taken their roots (which have been likened to NIRVANA in the past) and beefed them up a little bit...And that's a good thing, because no one wants to see you staring at your Goddamn shoes on stage, Chester.
The first single, the driving "Are you there?" is getting a ton of radio airplay, and representative of the bulk of the songs on this disc. There are a few ballads, but that's not OLEANDER's strong suit. I don't want these guys playing in the background when I'm with a girl...because I might just feel like hopping into a bathtub filled with warm water and slitting my wrists.
A solid release. If you can find it on sale anywhere, pick it up.
