PEACE AMONG THE RUINS
When I first popped in
Peace Among The Ruins,
I thought I was listening to STYX or maybe KANSAS. The vocals reminded
me a lot of STYX and the vocal melodies and even the music itself was
very much like STYX, Kansas, and even a little like YES. To add to the
mix, I also think their sound is a little reminiscent of a little known
band called VANILLA FUDGE, ask your parents about them, they might
remember. Some of you might remember a band called METAL CHURCH, well,
if you were wondering what ever happened to Kurdt Vanderhoof, now you
have your answer.
What I really like about this album is that it was recorded on
analog machines, not that new digital stuff. Say what you will about
the wonders of modern technology, it does more harm than good if you’re
a real musician and don’t want your music to sound like it was
programmed into some techno tin can machine. I’m not going to fake
anything though, It’s not an album I’d go out and buy. I’m actually
very picky about what Prog bands I like, and I do not dislike these
guys, it just didn’t stand out as anything overly incredible to me. But
to be totally fair I know that there are tons of fans out there that
love this kinda stuff and would be very happy with this album. Just for
the production quality, and their choice of using analog, I have to
give them a high rating. Simply because these guys may not have blown
me away with their hooks, but the quality of musicianship and the
common sense of how to record a great sounding album was all there.
