Il Demonio Nera - DVD
First and foremost, Danzig’s DVD entitled Il Demonio Nera
is a collection of music videos, outtakes, and alternative versions of songs
that came out of Danzig’s IV and V
discs. To make it easier for you to see
what’s on this DVD, I’ll break it down by describing each track briefly:
- “Until
You Call on the Dark (MTV version)” --- Extremely obnoxious song, but
we’re not really talking about the music, so I’ll go on to say the video
is just as annoying. We’ve got
Danzig, masked, crawling on stage while singing this tune to fans reaching
toward him, with some Viking looking women in the background.
- “Until
You Call on the Dark (Glenn Danzig performance) --- The only difference
between this video and the first one is the fact that the camera focuses
solely on Danzig (something he must
love). Same obnoxious song, and the
same weird Viking women wearing leather thongs.
- “Cantspeak
(clean version)” --- This is where the band attempts a Tool-like
video.
- “Cantspeak
(filter pass version) --- Same video, just not as crisp looking.
- “I
Don’t Mind the Pain (MTV Version) --- This is where Danzig
attempts to be sexy, as he has several black and white scenes without a
shirt on. He also tries to come
across as looking really tough, but you can tell it’s contrived (little
man syndrome at it’s best). Try not
to have a convulsion when the strobe lights come on.
- “I
Don’t Mind the Pain (Glenn Danzig performance) --- Same video, but this
time we get to sit through the entire song to watch Danzig
sing on top of some stone pillar.
- “I
Don’t Mind the Pain (band performace) --- Here’s where you REALLY gotta
try not to go into convulsions. The
whole video is nothing but the blue strobe lights found in the MTV
version. MAN, is this version
irritating! And even in this “band
performance” version, all you see is Danzig.
- “Sadistikal
(Black & White version, unreleased)” --- Let me just say, this is NOT
a song! Listen to it, and you’ll
know exactly what I mean. The video
isn’t any better. Scattered images
of band members, skulls, skeletons, and some chick rubbing her tits with
blood all over them….this is artistic vision as it’s best (and if you
don’t sense the sarcasm in that statement, you may be the type to
appreciate this kind of video).
- “Sadistikal
(Color & Black/White version, unreleased) --- Same annoying fucking
“song,” same dumbass video, just with some color added…WOOHOO!
- “Sacrifice (Director’s cut)” --- Danzig’s attempt at sounding like
Nine Inch Nails, and not even coming close. More annoying strobe
shit, Danzig’s trying to crawl out of the screen and into my livingroom
but I don’t want him in here, and then we find him playing to a crowd
in an underground club.
- “Serpentia
(Regular version, unreleased)” --- Okay, this is not a song either. Some sound effects and some woman
moaning, that’s all this is. Oh,
and I think Danzig’s trying to say
something, but I can’t make him out.
I only know he’s talking because I see his lips moving. I think he’s still attempting to be
Trent Reznor. He’s covered in
grease and, at one point, almost looks as if he’s humping the screen….“Is
that supposed to be sexy?” This is
even more irritating than anything that preceded it.
- “Serpentia
(Alternative version, unreleased) --- More of the same as track 11.
So, for a collection of the worst Danzig
songs and some of the worst videos you’ll ever see, pick up his latest DVD
release.
