Holy shit, it sounds like karaoke night at the nearby sushi restaurant.
My first complaint is that these guys are trying to release an album in
America, and they tried for that old “Half English, half in our native
language” bit and it doesn’t work, it never worked. Americans will
always get pissed when they can’t understand you. This is especially
true when your music is choppy, upbeat thrashy horror punk. There are
only two bands that don’t infuriate me when they take this approach,
DIMMU BORGIR and LACUNA COIL. Everyone else, it’s one or the other,
RAMMSTEIN made some big hits in America without having to sprechen Sie
Englisch. I think part of the problem is that even when they’re
speaking English you can’t understand them. On top of that, every song
sounds the same.
Jerry Only of the MISFITS endorses Balzac; maybe they should
study their friend Jerry a little. At least the Misfits had fun, upbeat
songs that were still incredibly dark and horror-filled. And I also
never had a problem understanding lyrics sung by Glenn, Michale, Myke,
or Jerry during each of their time doing vocals with the Misfits.
There are no songs that stand out, there is no real personality behind
the music, and after a while the songs start to get real boring and
annoying. I wanted to like this album, especially at first because the
music was both dark and energetic at the same time, but after listening
to it for a while I didn’t know when one song ended and another starts,
it all sounds relatively the same. I need music that will grab my
attention, Balzac is not it.
