SILENT PROTEST
TRIGGER POINT's
A Silent Protest just showed up in the mailbox. Let’s skip the band introductions and get into some music.
Leading off, we have “Please Stand By”. It is a short intro to get you
ready for what’s about to come. The real music then starts, and we have
the title track.
“A Silent Protest” is a really good song and the intro helped the
song’s start. Good vocals, good guitars, good song.
“My Time” is up next on the disc. It takes a long time to kick
in; around the 40-second mark a guitar starts but still no vocals. Then
around 1:12 the vocals finally start and I realize that the build-up
was not worth it. “My Time” isn’t a very good track. It’s not an awful
one, but not very good. Following in the footsteps of “My Time” were:
“His Final Breath” (a piano playing interlude), “Nowhere to Breathe”,
“Pain is a Lesson”, and “Seven”. The album would have been much better
without these tracks.
“Picking Up the Pieces” was an excellent addition to this
album. From the beginning of the track I knew it would be my favorite
song from A Silent Protest. It has good musical quality and the vocals
sound better than any other track on this release. “Away”, “The Color
of Real”, “Cycle”, and “Stray” were also great songs from A Silent
Protest. I would say that the album has been alright so far.
As the disc comes to a closing, we hear “The Last Laugh”. It
sounds like a SYSTEM OF A DOWN influenced track, aside from the
piercing vocals. It’s not a bad track either, it isn’t something I
would want to hear often but it was alright.
My overall impression is that this album is mediocre.
It had flashes of brilliance, but they were overshadowed by the filler
that negatively affected this album. It was alright…just alright.
