A CONCEPT FROM FIRE
After winning
Battle For Ozzfest for a slot on the coveted second stage this summer, A DOZEN FURIES is releasing their debut disc on Sanctuary Records.
A Concept From Fire
explodes right out of the starting gate like a car crash in the middle
of a thunderstorm. In addition to throwing out machine gun riffage and
rib-cracking drums, A Dozen Furies also manages to sneak in some melody
in with the growling on each track. "Awake and Lifeless" starts off as
an all out thrasher, but a few melodies manage to pop up through the
chorus. It's reminiscient of SHADOWS FALL, SOILWORK, and a handful of
other bands that have played on that
Ozzfest second stage.
I think A Dozen Furies still needs to find their own sound, and that's
fine...this is only their first disc. One of the good things is that
this Texas-based outfit has a nice chunk of music business experience
already; guitarist Marc Serrano was in UNLOCO before that band
disintegrated...so hopefully that will help them navigate some of the
typical pitfalls this business has to offer. There's a lot of talent in
this band, and that's obvious from the songwriting; there are so many
influences being thrown into this big blender of metal. I'll be curious
to see how they progress as songwriters, because they could stand to
hone their sound a little more. With that said, this is a suberb debut
from the next generation of Texas headbangers.
